The art: Lari Pittman, The Veneer of Order, 1985.
The news: “Born to Not Get Bullied: Lady Gaga wants to put an end to bullying, which is both a human rights abuse and a hindrance to education.” by Nicholas Kristof in The New York Times.
The source: Collection of The Broad Art Foundation, Santa Monica, Calif. Included in the exhibition, “This Will Have Been: Art, Love and Politics in the 1980s,” on view now at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago.
Nota bene: Pittman’s painting, painted at the height of the AIDS crisis and one of the most important artworks of the 1980s, demands equality for gay men and reminds us that our nation was “conceived and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.”

Astronomers detect signs of life on Earth
I’ve just put together a story for ABC science on a new method to study reflected light from the Earth, called earthshine that can correctly measure the amount of cloud cover, ocean and vegetation our planet has. It’s a technique that could be applied to the study of planets orbiting other stars.
If you missed my report on ABC radio, you can check out the on line version at….http://www.abc.net.au/science/articles/2012/03/01/3442569.htm
image….Earth’s Moon Photographed by the Expedition 28 crew aboard the International Space Station, this image shows the moon, the Earth’s only natural satellite, at center with the limb of Earth near the bottom transitioning into the orange-colored troposphere, the lowest and most dense portion of the Earth’s atmosphere. The troposphere ends abruptly at the tropopause, which appears in the image as the sharp boundary between the orange- and blue-colored atmosphere. The silvery-blue noctilucent clouds extend far above the Earth’s troposphere.

There’s a gaggle of us taking over Lido @ The Standard. Keep my rainforest bellinis (prosecco, acai liquer, crushed berries) coming and I’m a happy lady.

This guy secretly took a photo of a crazy man on the Muni in San Francisco. He likely tweeted it. I took a photo of him doing this.

SPACE JAM WEBSITE , 1996

We all remember the Warner Bros. movie Space Jam staring Michael Jordan! Well the original website launched in 1996 has been online and 90% complete for all this time.
website : http://www2.warnerbros.com/spacejam/movie/jam.htm

This is a great example showing how far we’ve come with the web! Considering the limitations that existed 12 years ago this website is still very well done!

I’m going with 100 heathen children on a field trip to see Slim Goodbody today and it appears I’ve lost my voice this morning.
I can’t wait to see how this goes.
Though I must admit, my finger snaps and menacing looks over the top of my glasses are usually enough to scare the kiddos. I’ve got the evil teacher stare down pat at this point.
